The “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” is one of the most significant sport, cultural and social events hosted in the city of Athens over the last years. The top event of our country could not be left out of the top annual awards “Events Awards 2018” presented yesterday evening in Athens, Greece.

The Athens Marathon was awarded with various important prizes of yesterday’s night; this recognition showcases the dynamic of the Athens Marathon not only within the sport community but to an even larger group of people who evaluate and award the impressive outcome of a collective effort of various people and authorities.

More specifically, the Athens Marathon won the:

1. Platinum Award in Thematical Events

2. Gold Award as Sport Event

3. Gold Award in Event Management

4. Silver Award in Environmental Management.

Moreover, at the same award ceremony SEGAS’ partner “BeBest” received the Silver Award for “ERGO Marathon Expo” in the category Exhibitions.

The Athens Marathon, an event with 121 years of history, has managed to increase participation from 4,000 runners in 2005 to more than 50,000 in 2017. The Athens Marathon is enhanced by the willingness of 3,000 volunteers and it is totally supported by several authorities of the public and private sector. The event gives back to the Greek community more than 3.5 million € annually, through its charity, as well as sponsor initiatives.

The Athens Marathon, co-organized by SEGAS and Attica Region, with the undeniable support of its Grand Sponsor OPAP, and of course the Greek National Tourism organization, is an event of priceless value that leads the way in sport, cultural, social, and tourist initiatives, and these awards are yet another proof of that.

The 2018 Athens Marathon will be held on 11 November and runners from all over the world are showing intensive interest in being here and experiencing its magic. Our expectation is that more than 55,000 runners of all ages will participate in all event’s races, creating a huge festivity from Marathon city to the Panathenaic Stadium, making Athens again the capital of the World.
